The old Tejuosho market which was demolished in the year 2008 and later rebuilt into a modern shopping plaza by the year 2014. Tejuosho market is directly opposite a popular Psychiatric hospital known to many Lagosians as Yaba Left.

Since the beginning of the digital revolution, Yaba has become one of the major go-to places for technology start-up in Africa, with tech renaissance such as Andela, Hotels.ng, Cc-Hub and some others with huge economic impact on the Nigeria economy ecosystem.

The reconstruction of the Tejuosho Model Market, which was established as part of the Lagos State Megacity Project, has transformed the Market into a major shopping mall in Lagos. The shopping arcade houses various businesses that includes food stores, boutiques, and a sports centers.

Yaba local governing council was established out of the old Lagos Mainland LGA which was created in 1977 as a single Local government in the post-national reform of local government in September 1976.

Lagos Mainland on its own was created from Lagos city council which managed the Lagos Metropolitan consisting of Lagos Island and the Lagos Mainland. With the establishment of three more Local governing council on August 27, 1991, the old Lagos mainland was re-established with Surulere created out of it.

Yaba Local council area is one of the 37 (Thirty Seven) newly established Local governing council areas that was created out of Lagos Mainland by Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.
